Illinois REALTORS® (IR) government affairs division works with the legislative and executive branches of Illinois government to address proposed and existing real estate-related legislation and regulation.

With about 6,000 bills introduced each legislative session, IR Government Affairs is kept busy addressing a broad scope of policy issues to ensure a healthy real estate climate and protect the private property rights of Illinois’ property owners. Affordable housing, owner-tenant relations, eminent domain, and transactional issues are just a sampling of the scores of policy areas weighed-in by IR Government Affairs. With 40,000 members statewide, IR is considered the leading voice of real estate in Illinois.

All IR policy issues are developed by members like you that volunteer to serve on various IR committees. Additionally, each State Representative and Senator is assigned a REALTOR® that volunteers to act as a liaison between IR and that legislator.
